When the temperature drops, non-synthetic oils thicken rapidly. This results in difficult starting in cold weather, as the engine struggles to turn over against the semi-solid lubricant. And even if the engine starts, the cold, thick oil will not circulate immediately, allowing some components of your engine to operate for up to five minutes without any lubrication.
